As the 2024 French Open comes towards a close, our Daily Dose of Social Media looks back on Saturday 8 June at Roland Garros with some of the moments both from Paris and further afield you may have missed.
Iga Swiatek of course features heavily after her triumphant Roland Garros win sealing a fourth crown in Paris. But also Jannik Sinner, Fabio Fognini and Boris Becker are among the highlights.

Giorgi posts gift from WTA

Camila Giorgi retired from tennis in a cloud of smoke with the Italian suddenly showing up on an ITF retirement list out of nowhere. In the weeks that followed, more details started to emerge including of tax misdemeanours and fleeing to the USA.
As well as the family renting a house and stealing all of the landlord's possessions and refusing to pay rent. Giorgi has remained silent on the latter but took to social media today to showcase a gift she received from the WTA.
A plaque which shows off her achievements in photo form. Some also saw the funny side that the WTA were using this as a way to track her down after she failed to return their calls.

Sinnerskaya continue to go more public

Anna Kalinskaya and Jannik Sinner continue their relationship which they went public with during Roland Garros. Whilst Kalinskaya went back home after her tournament conclude, Sinner continued on and reached the semi-finals of the 2024 French Open.
So Kalinskaya who initially was watching most of Sinner's matches at the 2024 French Open commented on his round-up post saying Proud to which Sinner responded with emojis in kind. Those on social media quipped that he's got 'bitten by the lovebug' and that they were shocked to see Sinner who previously has been against sharing information about his private life replying.

Muguruza watches Swiatek achieve greatness

Garbine Muguruza recently appeared at the Madrid Open watching the action in her first moves as a retired tennis star. Bt she was at Roland Garros today as one of the many stars who watched Swiatek win the title.
"Bringing back my best memories watching this amazing champ in @rolandgarros. Team @rolex @iga.swiatek," she wrote on Instagram.
As a commenter said Swiatek said as a teenager that Muguruza was her favourite player. So certainly a photo that has come full circle in one of the best now and one of the best of the past 10 years coming together. Superb.

Boris Becker returns live to Roland Garros

The only Grand Slam title that Boris Becker has never won is the French Open with multiple semi-finals reached. But it was a milestone for the legendary German.
He returned live to a tournament for punditry and commentary duty for the first time since he left prison. Currently not let back into the UK to cover Wimbledon or Australia/USA, Becker has mostly done his work for Eurosport from home on video call. But was back at a tournament debating with his fellow legends including Mats Wilander and Alex Corretja among others. He posted videos on his social media speaking of his delight of being back.

Fabio Fognini unveils new hair

Fabio Fognini has entered his new hair era. He has traded in his trademark dark brown hair for bleach blonde highlights. A very interesting look for the Italian.
โ€œRate from 1 to 10,โ€ the 37-year-old cheekily asked his followers. Albeit his eyebrows weren't coloured to match so it wasn't the full change to blonde.
He has previously added beads to his fair with tiny braids and joins the likes of Roger Federer, Richard Gasquet, Dominic Thiem and Casper Ruud in going for blonde.

Always time to dance for Jabeur

Ironically Ons Jabeur and Camila Osorio will face each other in the first round of the Nottingham Open where they both are over the next week or so.
Jabeur came into the shot whilst Osorio was filming a dance on Instagram reels and even though it looked choreographed, one user on X said they wouldn't put it past Ons to do it spontaneously. She begins her grass court season next week in the East Midlands city.

From the King to the Queen of Clay and Radwanska gets emotional

Others to heap praise on Swiatek as she defeated Jasmine Paolini included Rafael Nadal who congratulated her on his Instagram. From the King to the Queen of Clay in this instance. They are two of the three players to win four titles in Paris before their 24th birthday.
Aga Radwanska was also seen watching her compatriot as the previous trailblazer for Polish tennis. She was sat in the stands for her win and speaking to Alex Corretja afterwards, she had tears in her eyes and looked emotional as Swiatek made it four Roland Garros titles. She said to Corretja that she expected such a scoreline and was proud.
