Germanyâs
Alexander Zverev has named the most âexcitingâ
young player in menâs tennis. The 27-year-old, who is regarded as one of the
best players currently playing in menâs tennis in the singles category, is set
to feature in the ongoing ATP 1000 event, the Monte-Carlo Masters.
Ahead of his first outing in the ongoing competition, the 2025
Australian Open runner-up was featured in a video published by
TNT, in which he was asked about which young player is the most exciting in menâs tennis. Zverev stated that in his opinion, Spainâs Carlos Alcaraz and Italyâs Jannik Sinner are âaboveâ the rest of the players but names Brazilâs
Joao Fonseca as
the âmost excitingâ youngster around.
âIt is a difficult thing to answer,â he said. âI think there
are young guys who havenât established themselves at the moment. Obviously Jannik and Carlos still above them
at the moment. I still see those three with Novak still little bit ahead,
little bit up front. I think the most exciting one is Fonseca.â
The 18-year-old is already regarded as one for the
future and recently showcased his talent by winning the Argentina Open after
beating Argentinaâs Francisco Cerundolo in the final in straight sets with a
score of 6-4, 7-6.
Zverev, despite starting the year brilliantly, has gone through
a rough patch where in three consecutive events, he was knocked out before the
quarterfinals stage. His most recent outing was at the Miami Open, where he was knocked
out after losing in the round of 16 to Franceâs Arthur Fils with a score of
3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Zverev also touched on his recent form and admitted that the last few months did not go as he wouldâve wanted, but he remains optimistic that
things will âchangeâ in the near future. âAt the moment I am still world number
two,â he said. âI didnât have the best few months. I didnât have the best few
weeks after the Australian Open but I think thatâs hopefully going to change
again.â
