America’s tennis star
Taylor Fritz
looks forward to experiencing a team vibe at the
United Cup. The competition
will begin on December 29 in the Australian city of Sydney.
Fritz was recently quoted in a
report where he stated that he always likes to be a part of a team that is
cheering for him on the sidelines and it is because of this reason he likes
playing events such as Davis Cup and United Cup.
“I just like that energy of like
having a team like on the bench cheering for you, having other people I guess
relying on you to win,” he said. “It’s different; I think it pumps me up a lot
more than when I’m just playing for myself.
“And then United Cup, Laver Cup,
stuff like that – whether it be Team USA or Team World – it just feels like a
very big deal and I can always get very excited and fired up to play in those
situations. I feel like I’ve always played my best in team events.”
Team USA are placed in Group C alongside Great Britain and
Australia. Fritz further went on to talk about the prospect of facing players
such as Alex de Minaur and Cameron Norrie, who according to him will prove
tough to phase, especially at the start of the season.
“For me starting out (at United Cup 2024) it’s going to be
like straight into it with two really tough matches,” he said. “Obviously Alex
de Minaur, in Australia, is going to be tough. And then Cam Norrie and I have
played so many times and had so many close matches. So yeah, I’m going to have
to be prepared.”
Fritz had a good time in 2023 where
he ended up winning two ATP titles in Atlanta and Delray Beach. Both of those
victories came while playing on the Hard court.
