Nick Kyrgios will miss the Australian Open for a second successive year after the 28-year-old announced the news on OnlyFans after becoming a brand ambassador for the platform.
Kyrgios pulled out of the Melbourne major at the start of the year and was out of action for five months after surgery on his left knee. To return to Wimbledon where he made the final the previous year, he played just one game prior in Stuttgart losing to Yibing Wu. From there, he had further issues with his wrist ligament which also forced him out of the US Open.
After his recent appearance on the Tennis Channel, he said he was only about 70% there with his comeback in a warning sign and he later wasn't on the Entry List for the Australian Open announced this week.
Craig Tiley said that there would be a role for Kyrgios no matter what with wildcards on standby, but it has now been confirmed that he will not play in Melbourne after all.
"This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won't be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open," Kyrgios said on the online platform OnlyFans, which he joined on Friday.
"Obviously, heartbreaking. I've had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.
"I was so close to winning a Grand Slam. I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me."
