"It sounds like you were talking Chinese": Carlos Alcaraz left baffled by journalist's doping question

Carlos Alcaraz batted away a question surrounding doping in superb fashion by asking if the journalist in question was speaking Chinese as he gears up for the French Open which begins on Sunday.

Alcaraz was asked to give his thoughts on Max Purcell's doping ban due to IV infusions. But he didn't particularly get the question or why he was asked it.

Purcell got an 18-month doping ban from the ITIA after it was found that he had received IV infusions of vitamins above 500ml in December 2023. While fessing up to it, it stirred some controversy as unlike others he wasn't let off with a lenient ban.

Alcaraz was asked to share his thoughts on the case and how Purcell had feigned injury to justify taking the infusions. The Spaniard strayed away from the topic though and didn't understand the question.

"Honestly, what you told me right now, it sounds to me like you were talking Chinese," Alcaraz said in reply. "I have no idea what you were talking about, so I don't know if it's good or not. Honestly, I haven't heard that thing in my life so I can't answer, sorry."
