Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has called it an ‘unbelievable
experience’ to train with the former world number one
Roger Federer. The young
Spaniard finally got the chance to train with the legendary tennis star, who is
regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the
singles category in the Open era, during the Shanghai Masters earlier this
year.
Alcaraz, who is regarded as one of the best players
currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category along with the likes
of Italy’s Jannik Sinner, has recently been quoted in a report by Eurosport
where he stated that it was an ‘unbelievable experience’ of training with the 20-time
Grand Slam winner. Alcaraz further went on to call it a ‘dream’ to work alongside
Federer.
"It was an unbelievable experience for me," he
said. "Having the chance to play with him, it was great. I just enjoyed so
much, every shot, watching him playing the shots so easily. It was a dream. It
was a great experience. I had the chance to talk a lot with him, ask him some
questions about when he was playing. It was a masterclass honestly from
him."
Federer retired from
the sport in September 2022, largely because of fitness concerns. He was the
first player ever in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the
Open era to win more than 15 Grand Slam titles. The Basel-born was also the
first player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category to win 20
or more Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz, on the other hand, is currently in Paris to
participate in the ongoing Paris Masters. The reigning world number two has
booked his spot in the round of 16 after beating Chile’s Nicolas Jarry in straight
sets in the second round with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
