Britain’s tennis star
Cameron Norrie has backed Norway’s Casper
Ruud to lift the French Open this year. The 25-year-old is going through a
fabulous 2024 season where he became the first player to win more than 30
matches after continuing his impressive form in the ongoing
Madrid Open.
Before coming to Madrid, Ruud registered his biggest ATP triumph as he lifted the Barcelona Open after beating Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Ruud recently defeated Britain’s Norrie in the round of 32 of
the mega-event with a score of 6-2, 6-4 on Monday. Talking after the match, the
28-year-old heaped praise on his opponent who according to him will be amongst
the favourites to lift the second Grand Slam of the year which will be played at
the Roland Garros.
"I would say he [Casper Ruud] is the favorite for the
tournament and probably favorite for French Open as well," he said. "He
hit his backhand unbelievably well today. I came in there a lot, he passed me a
few times and I’m not sure he missed too many backhands today, maybe one in the
first game and that’s all I can remember so it was an impressive level from
him."
