Daniil Medvedev has put an end to the debate around whether or not he stole a plushie that belonged to Jannik Sinner at the ATP China Open final victory ceremony.
The World No. 3 faced Sinner in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing on Wednesday, October 4. Ahead of the match, Medvedev led their head-to-head 6-0, but Sinner managed to pull off a straight-sets victory against the Russian, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2).
After the match was concluded, both players received their respective trophies and a plushie toy each as a souvenir. However, in a video that emerged online after the ceremony, Medvedev can be seen reaching into Sinner's trophy and taking out a plushie after their photocall. He then walks away, leading some to accuse the 27-year-old of stealing it.

Medvedev clarifies truth behind situation

Both players are now preparing to compete at the Shanghai Masters, where Medvedev will face Cristian Garin in the first round. In his post-tournament press conference, he addressed the plushie incident, saying that the toy was his own after all.
"It was mine. It was mine. The thing is that they gave us both a toy, and he put his straight away in his trophy, in the cup, and me, I didn't want to be with a toy on the pictures because I knew that it's a great picture, so I put mine in his cup and took it back," he said.
Medvedev added that he was surprised by the attention that the video had received but also expressed his amusement at how it looks as though he stole it in the clip.
"I was actually even a little bit surprised it made such a buzz. But some of the videos and photos are really funny, the way I took it and just left, but it was my toy," he continued.
Sinner also confirmed this to be true in the press conference in Shanghai.
"No, no, no. So he had the same toy as I had, but we took the picture, and he put it in because of the picture, and then when he went away, he took it," he explained.
