Sofia Kenin found a way to win against Ons Jabeur despite the Tunisian hitting 35 winners and following the match she spoke to the media.
As the highest seed still alive at the
US Open,
Kenin had to fend off a furious barrage of 35 winners from
Ons Jabeur in order to advance to the next round. It was a very demanding match as Jabeur was extremely aggressive from the start highlighted in her winner numbers. She also did make a lot of mistakes as well. Following the match Kenin said:
"It was very physical. We moved a lot. It was long points. I feel like both of us were quite tired towards the end. I just told myself to keep pushing, I'm winning. But she never let up."
It was not the first time these two played against each other as they faced off in the quarterfinal of the
Australian Open earlier this year. History repeated itself as
Kenin once more prevailed. She did admit that Jabeur could have easily won the match if a couple of things went her way:
"It was the best she's played against me. Obviously I played her a few times, so I know her game well. She was serving, moving well. It was a really tough battle. She never let up. It was really close."
