When the draw paired
Jennifer Brady and
Angelique Kerber many expected a spectacle in the 4th round of the
US Open. While we saw spectacular tennis the spectacle that was anticipated did not happen. The match was one-sided pretty much from the beginning. The first set was a quick and yet despite that there was not much separating the players. The only difference was the effectiveness of the 2nd serve, a small, yet very important difference. While Brady won 88 % of those points, Kerber one zero.
That allowed Brady to brake Angie twice and win the 1st set 6-1. The 2nd set started off with 3 consecutive breaks. Brady broke
Kerber, then Angie broke her back but again lost her own serve without winning a point. Several tough games followed where both players had chances to take the lead especially after
Brady took a medical timeout when she lead 3-2. Kerber gave it her all but all her attack were neutralized by Brady who kept winning her own service games and preserving the lead. Ultimately it proved enough and he held on to win 6-1 6-4.
