Daniil Medvedev won his maiden Grand Slam trophy at the US Open and oftentimes players struggled to keep up that level after the triumph.
The latest example came with Dominic Thiem who played one of his worst seasons this year after winning the 2020 US Open. Thiem himself spoke at length about the lack of motivation he felt after winning the US Open and his struggles to find motivation. Gilles Cervara, the coach of Daniil Medvedev, assured fans that it won't happen with Daniil saying:
“I don’t think that will happen to him. But if we want to use what has happened for others, then yes it is a point of attention. It’s too early to know. If that happens, we will look for solutions.”
Medvedev has always been open about his competitive spirit but also his approach to tennis explaining that he always tries to do his best and whatever the result is he is fine with it. It worked so far for him but as a major winner now, there will be added pressure. How will the Russian combat that pressure remains to be seen?
