Canada has never been considered a tennis powerhouse but in the last couple of years, the country is becoming just that in tennis. Leylah Fernandez is just one of the talented players coming from Canada recently and with her US Open run this year she achieved history. She became only the 3rd Canadian woman to reach a Grand Slam ever and only the 7th to ever break into the top 30.
It's a marvellous achievement for ap layer only aged 19 and it should be only the start of many more thing to come for Fernandez. She played stunning tennis taking down several notable tennis players en route to the final such as Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina.
Fernandez was not able to win the US Open, in the end, getting bested by another sensational teenager in Emma Raducanu but either way, her name is already written in Canadian tennis history and with a very bright future ahead of her it's only the beginning.
