After the
partnership between Holger Rune and Boris Becker was confirmed, the young
tennis player expressed his enthusiasm to learn from the experience of the
former German player and, with a touch of humor, mentioned that he hopes to
"steal" some of the knowledge that Becker passed on.
However,
Rune has been going through a streak of adverse results, having won only one
match out of the nine played since his standout performance at Wimbledon, where
he reached the quarterfinals. That lone victory came against Félix
Auger-Aliassime, whose own track record is not much better, with 18 wins and 20
losses in that same period.
At the end
of August, Rune terminated his brief collaboration with Patrick Mouratoglou due
to alleged disagreements between the French coach and Lars Christensen, a
member of his team who has worked with Rune since a young age and continues to
be part of his team. This situation led the 20-year-old Danish player to seek a
new addition to his coaching staff.
Boris
Becker, the former world number one, already has experience as a coach and has
contributed to Novak Djokovic's success, helping him achieve several of his
Grand Slam titles. Therefore, Rune is proud to have brought the German into his
team and is confident that his experience and wisdom will be valuable for his
development as a tennis player:
"It's
great to learn from players like (Boris Becker) and from Rafa (Nadal), Roger
(Federer) and Novak (Djokovic)," Rune said.
"It
would be good to steal a bit from what they did. They got so many things right,”
Rune added.
"Boris
did well as a coach of Djokovic and as a player. I'm excited to hear what he
has to say."
"He is
teaching me things that are basic but important," he said. "It's
gonna be nice, you'll see.” Rune stated. "I hope he can give me as much
advice as possible and help me to do better."
