Cameron Norrie reached his maiden ATP 1000 Masters semifinal in
Indian Wells and that achievement will allow him to become the British number one.
It's been a very long and exciting season for Cameron Norrie who notched close to 50 wins so far on the year. The British player won his maiden trophy this season while also reaching multiple finals and the biggest breakthrough of the year came in Indian Wells. He got a very favourable draw and then played perfectly to seize the chance and advance to the BNP Paribas Open semifinal.
It remains to be seen how far can Norrie go but by doing so he officially overtook Dan Evans as the British number one. On that Norries said:
“It was never really a goal of mine, but it’s definitely a great
bonus to be British No. 1. I
want to keep pushing. I think I’ve got a lot of things to improve on,
but I think it’s one of those things you’ve got to enjoy. It’s nice to show some of the hard work from Facu (his coach) and I that have been putting in over the last kind of five years after college. It’s showing, and it’s been a lot of fun.”
Norrie credit his coach for the breakthrough season noting how passionate his coach is for tennis and all the work they put in together to achieve this goal:
“He’s so passionate about tennis. He’s given 120% every day. He takes
care of all the little details, everything, so he’s a phenomenal
coach. He’s always willing to learn and listen
to others. He’s great friends with a lot of Argentinian coaches who
have a lot of experience and played on the tour. So he’s around the best
guys in the world, and he’s listening to what they are saying."
