Novak Djokovic will open his account for 2024 technically on New Years Eve when his Serbia side take to
United Cup action against China. The 24-time Grand Slam champion though won't be resting on his laurels in Perth when he takes on Zhizhen Zhang and Qinwen Zheng who stunned Czech Republic in their opening clash.
Djokovic who showed his very much everything or nothing attitude by going straight to the Davis Cup and nearly anchoring Serbia to the title if it wasn't for Jannik Sinner in particular will adopt the same mindset as he heads into the mixed team event. He said that it is always 100% no matter what when he plays and that is what he will be bringing to the United Cup.
He said also that in his mind he wouldn't even bother turning up to the United Cup if he didn't feel at his best or able to contribute to his team's cause. It will be his only preparation for the Australian Open, with Djokovic set for his usual of having minimal warm-ups for Grand Slams so this will be a rare outing for the Serbian kingpin.
"There is only one percentage in my head. You know, it's always 100%, really. I don't make calculations when I enter the court, regardless of the event level or category, particularly when I play for my country," Djokovic said.
"So it hasn't been the case in the past that I calculated; neither it will be tomorrow, regardless of the age or the state I'm in. I wouldn't be here if I'm not able to play or give my best in both singles and potentially mixed doubles. You know, I look forward hopefully contributing with at least one win for my country," he added.
