Dominic Thiem lost to Benjamin Bonzi in Estoril in straight sets despite having 3 set points in the second set to extend the match.

Thiem is yet to win a match since returning from injury earlier this month. The Austrian player played three matches overall losing all three against players he regularly would have beaten. It's obviously a process to get back to peak tennis form but the frustration was still present. Asked about the match, Theim said:

"I'm very pissed. I wanted to play a 3rd set badly"

Despite that he struck a more positive tone after that highlighting his clear improvement in each match which is true:

“It’s tough to lose in early rounds and I feel this won’t be the last time, but at the same time is nice to feel that I’m improving every week. It’s a feeling that you don’t have when you are top5”.

Thiem will play in Madrid next week where he had a solid run last year reaching the quarterfinal and losing to Zverev.

Liked to hear from Thiem, doesn’t look in panic about his moment. “It’s tough to lose in early rounds and I feel this won’t be the last time, but at the same time is nice to feel that I’m improving every week. It’s a feeling that you don’t have when you are top5”.
