Former Wimbledon champion
Goran Ivanisevic has revealed that
he had to take sleeping pills while working with the current world number one
Novak Djokovic. The former world number two worked with Serbia’s legendary tennis star for six years as a coach.
The two recently decided to part ways after a series of unimpressive results in the past. Ivanisevic was recently quoted in a report in which he revealed that he had to take sleeping pills because of the pressure to perform in difficult circumstances. “I always had good [sleeping] tablets,” he said. "No, seriously: you have pressure every day in this industry. But I was
completely okay with it. You get used to the circumstances.”
Ivanisevic further went on to talk about the reason behind
having a good relationship with arguably one of the greatest player in the
history of men’s tennis who has won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles. “It helped
that we both came from the Balkans,” he said. “Novak and I are similar. I was
always prepared for his possible reactions. Well, when you train Novak
Djokovic, anything other than winning the title at any tournament is a failure.
That's a lot of pressure to deal with.”
