America’s tennis star Taylor Fritz has stated that it is a ‘dream come true’ for him to book his spot in the final of the US Open 2024. The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is now just a few matches away from conclusion as the final’s lineup has been completed in the men’s and women’s singles category.
In the men’s category, America’s Fritz booked his place in the grand finale after beating his fellow countryman Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thrilling semifinal with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. With that result, the 26-year-old became the first American tennis player in the men’s singles category to book a spot in the final of the US Open in 18 years. The last player to do that was the former world number one Andy Roddick, who did that in 2006.
After the match, Fritz stated that it is his ‘dream come true’ moment after booking his place in the last-two of the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. The San Diego-born star also stated that it took him time to realise that he has finally booked his place in the final of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
“It was a crazy match,” he said. “I think a lot of it was just about handling the moment and the pressure. He was playing at a very high level. It was really about just staying in it and kind of just withstanding how much pressure he was putting on me from the baseline. It hit me when Banks said the thing about how I’m in the finals and the crowd was cheering. It’s such a lifelong, I guess, dream come true, something I’ve worked my whole life for to be in this situation.”
Fritz is now set to face world number one Jannik Sinner in the final of the mega-event. The 23-year-old, who is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in men’s tennis, booked his place in the last-two after beating Britain’s Jack Draper in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-6, 6-2.
