Former world No. 8 Jack Sock spoke about his feelings when watching the final stages of Andy Murray's career. The three-time Grand Slam champion was on the verge of retirement in 2019 after undergoing hip surgery, but against all odds, he made a comeback to the Tour to compete for a couple more seasons.

However, the Brit didn't manage to return to the elite ranks he was in before the surgery. Since the injury, his best ranking was world No. 36 in 2023, and he stayed within the top 50 for the last three years.

Sock talks about the disappointment of Murray's late career

Murray left behind some epic matches as a farewell, though he never made deep runs in Grand Slam tournaments or Masters 1000 events again. A back injury during the summer prompted him to make the final decision to retire at the past Olympics.

American Jack Sock, who retired after the 2023 US Open, shared his impressions in Nothing Major Podcast about Murray’s final phase of his career, which he considered a bit of a disappointment. "I stopped fairly early. It wasn’t something I was interested in doing anymore," he stated.

"I think the Andy Murray thing, I think it was awesome for him. But my hot take was that it was also kind of sad to watch at times."

The American former Paris Masters champion added that it was "a little bit sad" to see Murray going onto the court in recent times, knowing the physical complications he endured. "Him going out there, hobbling around and it looks like he is trying so hard to be out there but it’s not really there anymore."

"It’s one of those where I didn’t want to get to a point where you are almost forcing yourself back out on the court," Jack Sock added. "It is a little bit sad to watch, would be my weird take or my hot take, but he is also obsessed with it and loves it and wants to do it, and he should do it."
