A user on X compiled several social media posts by Lina Glushko (who was defeated today by Naomi Osaka) where the player openly shares pro-Israel messages. One of the stories shared by Glushko—posted on 18 October 2023 and still visible as of today—strongly criticises supporters of the “Free Palestine” movement.
Osaka delivered a solid performance against the world No. 221. After one hour and 21 minutes, Naomi Osaka secured a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-4, and advanced to the second round of the ASB Classic. The Israeli player was competitive at times against an erratic Osaka, but the former world No. 1 relied on her superior skill to prevail.
However, another aspect drew attention during the day in Auckland, as loud pro-Palestinian protests could be heard outside the stadium while the players competed. Apparently, the protesters were not only upset about the inclusion of the Israeli player in the draw but also about Glushko’s strong pro-Israel stance on social media.
“Every person who supports Hamas, who says free Palestine. I really welcome you to visit there. Good luck. F***ing educate yourself. Living in US, UK, Europe, so convenient to protest and support Palestine from there, ah?," she wrote.
“To go with a sign of ‘Free Palestine’ and a Palestinian flag, to say ‘Israel has to give water, electricity, fuel, there are babies and kids in Gaza.’ Well, guess what, our babies were f***ing BURNED ALIVE! Hamas didn’t care who’s standing in front of their face; they were brutally and horribly abusing and murdering kids, babies, women, and elderly,” the world No. 221 continued.
“So we are done. If you support these actions, you are not a human being to me. Getting sick of seeing these celebrities, people (that I know!) posting these ‘Help Gaza’, ‘Free Palestine’ stories and posts.”
The player currently maintains dozens of posts in her Instagram highlights, sharing videos, opinions, and posts in support of Israel.
