American tennis star Jack Sock will join Team World’s campaign to overthrow defending champions Europe at The Laver Cup, which is being held this year at The O2 in London from September 23-25, 2022.
Sock has accumulated the most points [16] to date for Team World, winning seven of nine doubles matches, and one singles match, while playing in the first three editions of the Laver Cup on Captain John McEnroe’s side.
Joining as a Captain’s Pick, he is the fourth player named to Team World’s 2022 roster after Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman, with two places remaining.
“Jack is a versatile and supportive team player who relishes the fast-paced, exciting atmosphere at Laver Cup,” McEnroe said. “He’s one of the best doubles players in the world, and in singles, he’s capable of pulling off huge upsets as we saw in Geneva.
“He brings out the best with whomever he teams with in doubles and can handle the intense pressure. It’s no secret that he could be key to pulling off an upset in London.”
Sock soared to a career-high singles ranking of No.8 after a stellar end to his 2017 season, winning his first Masters 1000 title in Paris to qualify for the ATP Finals. At Laver Cup Chicago 2018, ranked 210 and returning from a thumb injury, he stunned Team Europe’s Fabio Fognini on Day 1 of the competition.
“Laver Cup brings out the best in me, and I can’t wait to get out there again with the guys and play my part for Captain McEnroe,” said Sock. “I missed playing last year, I just love this event and I’m hoping I can again bring home the points for Team World.”
Team Europe is undefeated in Laver Cup competition, winning in Prague 2017, Chicago 2018, Geneva 2019, and Boston 2021.
