Former French Open winner Adriano Panatta believes Italy’s young
tennis star
Jannik Sinner is just ‘millimetre’ away from the level of Serbia’s
legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic.
The 22-year-old is often regarded as the most highly-rated player
in the men’s singles category currently playing in the circuit alongside Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz and America’s Ben Shelton.
Panatta was recently quoted in a report where he heaped
praise on Sinner who according to him is very close to the level of Djokovic.
“All that’s missing is Rome and Paris, then we’re done! I’m
happy, I don’t know the word envy. I’m dying and Sinner is being born!” he said.
“He is an example, he is a millimetre from Djokovic, they play on equal terms.
“Saving three match points is a feat within a feat. Next
time, Jannik will start with an advantage. Nole fears him. With Jannik, we are
good for ten years, he is square and mature.”
Sinner recently
defeated Djokovic twice in a week. First, he got the better of the legendary
tennis star in the
ATP Finals with a score of 7-5, 6-7, 7-6. Later in the Davis
Cup, the current world number four once again got the better of the 24-time
Grand Slam winner which helped Italy in cementing a place in the final.
