Jannik Sinner extends
his ATP 500 winning streak to 19 consecutive victories. The Italian has been
virtually flawless in tournaments of this category and has not suffered a
defeat since a year ago at the same
Halle Open, when he retired midway through
the quarterfinal match against
Alexander Bublik due to injury.
Since early 2023, he
holds a record of 26-2 in ATP 500 matches, counting his withdrawal against
Bublik due to muscle issues and the loss in the
Rotterdam Open final in
February 2023 against
Daniil Medvedev.
The Italian will play
the final of the Halle Open on Sunday, aiming for his first grass court title
and fifth ATP 500 title. Sinner previously claimed the crown at the 2021
Washington Open, and began his streak with titles at the 2023
China Open,
Vienna Open, and the 2024 Rotterdam Open, in addition to the four victories he
achieved this week in Halle.
His opponent will be
the Polish player
Hubert Hurkacz, with whom he has a tied head-to-head record
of 2-2. They have only met once in a final, back in the 2021 Miami Open, where
Hurkacz defeated Sinner in straight sets. Hurkacz has eight career titles, with
only one ATP 500 title, precisely won at the Halle Open two years ago.
