The topic of scheduling has been cropping up more often than not on the men's side for the first time in 2024 with Carlos Alcaraz saying they are going to kill players.
Jannik Sinner has took a different tact throughout.
Sinner was asked after he defeated Tomas Martin Etcheverry in a thriller on Sunday about scheduling again and he did have criticism for one tournament after staying fairly nonplussed about it in the past.
He said that the Davis Cup is slightly a problem with the Finals scheduled at the end of a long season directly after the ATP Finals which of course is played by many of the protagonists. But in the case of Sinner, it was kind of the making of the Italian who got wins over Novak Djokovic in consecutive weeks and became a force to be reckoned with.
But also he is under no illusion of being in a great place to pick and choose which others perhaps are not and that it is solely up to him.
"Yeah, I mean, we have a lot of tournaments, that's for sure. That what would be ideal is that after the ATP Finals there is no Davis Cup. I think that's for sure one thing we, I would change in the schedule," said Sinner in Shanghai.
"The rest we can still choose as a player, no, if I play Beijing or if I play here. I feel like this season we chose the right tournaments and the right time, and for me it was no problem."
"I do understand other players sometimes if, you know, they were 30, 40, 50 in the world, you know, which they have to protect their self a little bit more, then it's a different question or suggestion," Sinner said. "But, you know, talking for my side, we player can still choose."
