Jannik Sinner will not play on Thursday at the Madrid Open in an unfortunate end to the World No.2's time at Caja Magica. He has withdrawn with the right hip injury that has plagued him all week.
Sinner who decided to take to the court against Karen Khachanov after testing out the injury propelled doubts in the minds of fans by saying afterwards that he wasn't sure if he'd play his Quarter-Final and that it was ‘touch and go’. This though was two days prior and that he would make the decision the day before.
He has now made the decision and it is perhaps understandable. He will play the Rome Open which begins on May 8 and will be set for a home hero homecoming there. He also could become World No.1 and the weeks after see Roland Garros take place so more precaution than anything else. But with minimal top names left aside from Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev, an interesting new winner will be crowned. It won't be Sinner though who heads out.
