Jannik Sinner has revealed how he is recovering from a heartbreaking defeat in the French Open final. The 23-year-old lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller one week ago in Paris with a score of 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
In the match that lasted nearly five and a half hours, Sinner was just one point away from lifting the title in the ninth game of the fourth set. He had three championship points, but Alcaraz somehow managed to win the next five points and clinched the game. Alcaraz then went on to break Sinner’s serve in the next game and made it 5-5 before eventually winning the fourth set on a tiebreak.
Sinner, who is now set to feature in an ATP tournament in Halle, featured in an interview for the first time after losing the longest final at the Roland Garros. The world number one shared how his family is helping him recover from the defeat. Sinner admitted that he has had some ‘sleepless nights’ after losing the final but said that he is feeling ‘better’.
“I relaxed a lot with my family, had a barbecue, played table tennis with my friends. Just normal stuff, nothing special,” said Sinner as quoted by Tennis.com. “I always like going home when there's a lot going on. I feel very safe with my family and friends, that's why. They know what I'm like and what I used to be like. That's why they know me very, very well and didn't do much. I've had a few sleepless nights because of that," he confessed. "But yes, I think it's getting better every day. My family is behind me, all my friends and the circle of friends I have. That's the most important thing for me. They're doing well, so outside of tennis, that's an even more important part of my life."
