Kecmanovic saw off Nishikori who returned following surgery on his right elbow in October - he had to postpone his comeback though as he tested positive for Coronavirus before the Cincinnati Masters and US Open.
His previous match before that was defeat in the third round of the US Open to Alex de Minaur. It looked like he hadn't left as he went on to claim a 5-0 lead.
From there he led 6-4, 4-4; but from there only won two of the next 10 games as he bowed out from a comeback from the World No.47.
