Jennifer Brady defeated Yulia Putintseva in straight sets to reach the US Open semifinal for the 1st time in her career.
A US Open quarterfinal match between
Jennifer Brady and
Yulia Putintseva wasn't expected but it is what tennis fans around the world got. And the match itself started magnificently for Brady who won the first four games played. She served well and played stellar and aggressive from the baseline allowing her to jump out to a 4-0 lead without any issues.
Putintseva did manage to get one break back but it wasn't enough to turn around the whole match so Brady went on to win the 1st set with 6-3. It wasn't a great performance by either of them but it was an important step from Brady.
What many believed to be the 2nd step towards victory was her early break in the 2nd set which allowed her to take a 2-0 lead. Putintseva fought back immediately to make it 2-2 but she also lost the next service game to give Brady once again a break. She would confirm it and take a 4-2 lead which quickly became a 5-2 lead as Putintseva looked completely crushed. Brady would finish off the match with 6-2.
A very strong display from the American who has been playing at a consistent level that includes some fantastic tennis at times.
