Kei Nishikori has employed renowned coach Thomas Johannsson, as the Japanese gears up for his return to tennis.
Nishikori has been out of the game since last July, having only recently returned from a long time away from the game. As the 34-year-old prepares for his comeback, he announced on X last weekend he has been working with Johannsson after the pair linked up in Florida.
"Hi everyone! Excited to announce that @tompatennis is joining Team Kei for the 2024 season. We already had some good weeks together in Florida and I am happy he is joining the team," said Nishikori.
Nishikori reached the quarter finals in Atlanta in his last Tour level appearance. That was after he won on the Challenger Tour in Puerto Rico in what was his first competitive appearance in almost two years. The current number 351 in the world has previously reached as high as World No. 4.
Johannsson has had plenty of experience working for top-class players, with Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sakkari and David Goffin among the names to have been coached by the Swede.
