Both Karen Khachanov and Emil Ruusuvouri had to go the full distance to reach the 2nd round of the US Open but they both prevailed in sensational marathon matches.

Jannik Sinner opened the match up in better fashion as he managed to break Khachanov early on in the set which gave him confidence leading to a comfortable 6-3 1st set victory. Sinner looked really good on the court as Khachanov could not match his opponents early energy. He did compose himself in the 2nd set which he played much better particulalry on his own serve.
As both players allowed little while serving we ended up in a tiebreak. It was a sensational one as both players played well but ultimately the Italian had a bit more luck and he won it 9-7. It looked like the Italian phenom would be cruising to an easy victory against Khachanov who demonstrated a good level at the Western & Southern Open. Things turned around for the Russian in the 3rd set. He completely demolished Sinner 6-2 in it.
Both players took a medical timeouts during the set but Sinner seemed to be more affected by his ailment. It became even more evident in the 4th set where Khachanov took complete control winning it with 6-0.
Another match that went the full distance was matche between Ruusuvouri and Bedene. The match was one that lasted over 3 hours had it all. The Finnish player looked in control for much of the match but he allowed the Slovene to fight back. He was close to ending it in 4 sets but a 3-1 lead was not enough for him to hold on. However he would not make the same mistake in the 5th set where he never allowed his early lead to slip away.
The match featured pretty good serving from both player's and a lack of decisivness on the Finns part. He converted only a third of his break points which is why he had to go the full distance to end the match. The end result was 6-3 3-6 6-1 4-6 6-1.
