A stacked day two has began at the Western & Southern Open with Karen Khachanov and Diego Schwartzman, two of the main players through the early results in New York.

Khachanov won through with relative ease against a tricky opponent in Alexander Bublik 6-4, 6-4 in just over 84 minutes for a place in the second round. The Russian's rustiness was a potential factor coming into the tie with no competitive action for nearly 200 days.
But he soon dispelled that by breaking in the first game and claiming the first game with a break of serve and he went onto win it in 41 minutes with 79 per cent of his first-service points; as well as seven aces.
Schwartzman who was out for most of February with a left leg injury similarly was a player to watch in terms of how he dealt with the return but an impressive display saw him dispel Casper Ruud 7-6(2), 6-2 in just under two hours.
He broke clear in the first set tie-break winning five straight points and he streaked to a 3-0 lead in the second set before claiming the tie to extend his record against Ruud to 5-0.
Other early winners include Tennys Sandgren who navigated past Lorenzo Sonego in a 6-3, 7-6 win while Marcus Giron defeated fellow qualifier, Mackenzie McDonald 7-6, 5-7.
