Rafael Nadal's unbeaten streak survives another match as the Spaniard was able to pull out a 2-5 deficit in the final set to win the match.
When Rafael Nadal arrived in Indian Wells, many expected the Spaniard to win the event as he was widely considered the first favourite. He has played the best tennis overall this year being undefeated and winning 15 matches. The start of the match featured strong play by Nadal against a nervous Korda rushing to a 6-2 finish.
It seemed like the Spaniard would cruise in the 2nd set yet Korda stepped up his game considerably attacking relentlessly. The American was able to return the ball quite deep forcing Nadal on the defensive and he does not like to do that. He played bravely and was hitting his forehand rather well. That caught Nadal off guard as Korda won the set with 6-1.
The 2nd brought more continued great play from Korda who was still playing rather bravely. Nadal was struggling and he did not seem to be confident in his tennis moving forward with Koeda being firmly in control. He jumped out to a 5-2 lead and serve for the match but Nadal broke him to make things a bit more interesting.
Korda got another chance but once again choked it away with Nadal pulling it back to 5-5. Korda was able to hang on and force a tiebreak and he was in a very good spot in the tiebreak having a 3-2 lead with two serves coming up however he choked it away once more. Ultimately, three chokedswere too much to overcome against Nadal.
