Sebastian
Korda won his first match since the Australian Open against
Mackenzie McDonald.
The
American started the year in great form, reaching the final of the Adelaide
Open (defeated by Novak Djokovic) and then making it to the quarterfinals of
the Australian Open, where he had to retire during his match against Karen
Khachanov.
After his
strong start to the season,
Sebastian Korda announced a right wrist injury that
kept him out of action for three months. He returned to the courts at the
Madrid Open, where he lost in the first round, as well as in the Rome Open.
In his
opening match of the 2023
French Open, the world No. 29 had no trouble
defeating his compatriot Mackenzie McDonald in three sets. After the match,
Korda mentioned that he didn't train during the three months of his injury:
"I put
on like 7kg of muscle. Kind of getting back into it. Been a while since I
played any tennis. Madrid, Rome, and now here, just kind of getting my feet
comfortable again," Korda said.
In the
second round of the French Open, Korda will face world No. 118 Sebastian Ofner,
a player who came through the qualifying rounds and eliminated Maxime Cressy in
the first round.
