Germany is through to the
Davis Cup semifinals after eliminating Great Britain thanks to
Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz.
After the nations split the singles matches earlier in the day it came down to the doubles and it was very good doubles match with a very close result. Neither team was much better than the other one but the German pair played better under pressure which is what matters the most. The first set was a very closely contested one as neither pair allowed much.
Both very dominant on their serve and they were able to hold to it rather easily. The Germans had a set point late in the first set but failed to convert it sending the match into the tiebreak. Initially, it was the British who had the upper hand having a 6-4 lead and serve to close it out. The Germans were able to come back to tie it at 6-6.
After that, both played very well but the Germans prevailed 12-10. The 2nd set was a very similar one with both teams playing near perfect tennis. Neither allowed any break points and we ended up in another tiebreak. It was even more exciting than the first one because the British jumped out to a 5-0 lead. It seemed like they were going to send it in to a 3rd set but the Germans never give up.
They came back to make it 5-5 before closing it out with 7-5. An amazing comeback by Germany both in this match and the whole tie as they lost the opening match but rallied to come back and win the tie. They move to Madrid for the semifinals.
