Kvitova moves on as Muguruza crashed out of National Bank Open in Montreal

Petra Kvitova is through to the 3rd round of the National Bank Open in Montreal while Muguruza will book an early flight to Cincinnati.

A couple of seeds played today in Montreal with different results. Petra Kvitova took on the surging Fiona Ferro and she handled the French player rather comfortably 6-4 6-4. Kvitova had a rough going in Tokyo but today she looked much better.

She played a very good brand of tennis dominating on her own serve not facing a single break point in the first set. She took it with 6-4 after patiently waiting for her chance. The 2nd set started off badly as Kvitova was down 0-3 early but fought back to make it 4-4. She then closed it out with 6-4.

Garbine Muguruza will not join her in the 3rd round as the Spaniard crashed out against Katarina Siniakova. The Czech gold medalist is a very tricky player capable of beating great players and that happened today. After beating Ostapenko, Siniakova carried that good momentum into this match.

She took the first set with 6-2 rather easily but then got smashed in the 2nd set receiving a bagel 0-6. It seemed like Muguruza would find a way to win the match but the Spaniard simply could not string together a good run of points. In the end, Siniakova proved better winning the 3rd set with 6-3.
