Stefanos Tsitsipas debuted as the 3rd best player in the world on this week's ATP Rankings but the Greek player is aiming for more.
This year has been a good year for Stefanos Tsitsipas despite some heartbreaking moments such as the French Open loss in the final. The Greek player rose to a career-high ranking of 3 on this year's ranking in large part to an excellent clay season that saw him emerge as one of the best on the surface.
The writing on the wall for Tsitsipas was always there but in 2021 things are finally starting to fall into place. Ahead of the National Bank Open in Toronto Tsitsipas was asked about reaching number 3 to which he said:
“I’m happy to be in that position. It’s been a goal of mine. Top three has significant value to me. [But] I’m aiming for more."
Tsitsipas will have a decent shot at winning his 2nd Master's title in Toronto as the Greek is the 2nd highest player attending the event. Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev are just some of the names skipping over this event. However, he will need to improve on his shaky form lately on which he spoke as well:
“Losses are good. Losses help you build perspective and educate yourself to pursue things a different way. I am able to learn from a loss like this. And I’m able to apply something different next time."
He is confident that things will fall into place as he is enjoying himself on the court every time he steps on it:
“My game is there, and I’m enjoying playing tennis. I feel blessed that I get opportunities like this.”
