Former world number 14 and British number one Kyle Edmund pulled out of the 2021 US Open after not recovering from his knee surgery.
The last time Kyle Edmund played a competitive match was in October last year in Vienna. Since then the former British number one dealt with numerous injuries most notably a persistent knee injury. In March of 2021, Edmund underwent surgery to finally try and solve the issue.
The surgery was a success but the road to full recovery is a long one. Knee injuries are notoriously slow healers and the joints can be easily reinjured if one rushes to soon. For Edmund, the hope was that he will return at the 2021 US Open but that is out of the question now.
He officially withdrew from the event being replaced by Denis Kudla in the main draw. That left the number of British men's representation in the main draw at three with Evans, Murray and Norrie.
