Plans have been going forward as revealed earlier today for the US Open to go ahead on it's usual dates at the end of August, with multiple tournaments taking place in the area beforehand. One player who is against the idea of playing the tournament is Nick Kyrgios.
Kyrgios has branded the USTA as 'selfish' especially in his case as he has to travel from Australia for the event; under current regulations, he would have to quarantine for 14 days when he returns home.
“Smh people that live in the US of course are pushing the Open to go ahead. ‘Selfish’ I’ll get my hazmat suit ready for when I travel from Australia and then have to quarantine for 2 weeks on my return,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
The Australian is not alone though with the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep, Ashleigh Barty and Petra Kvitova; also voicing their displeasure at the event potentially taking place.
But the USTA is determined for the event to happen with TV and sponsorship events; meaning that unlike Wimbledon who had insurance taken out for this eventually, they cannot afford for it not to happen.
