Nick Kyrgios was
criticized for his response to the
Australian Open bottom quarter half on Twitter
The first
two rounds of the Australian Open have left several eliminated who seemed
favorites to reach the final rounds. In particular, the last quarter is the one
that has seen the biggest surprises, with the early elimination of players like
Casper Ruud (2th seed),
Taylor Fritz (8th seed),
Alexander Zverev (12th seed) and
Matteo Berretini (13th seed). In this way, there’ll be a surprise in one of the
semifinalists.
After that,
Nick Kyrgios responded to a comment that listed the players who are still in
competition in that part of the draw:
“Nice Little
250 going on.”, said the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up.
The aussie announced
his withdrawal of the first major of the season before the first round, due to
an injury to his left knee, and was replaced by the lucky loser Denis Kudla.
From the
eight players who'll fight to advance in this part of the draw, there are five Americans:
Ben Shelton, Jeffrey John Wolf, Michael Mmoh,
Tommy Paul and Jenson Brooksby. Also,
the local Alexei Poiryn, the Spaniard 24th seed
Roberto Bautista Agut, and the
three-time Grand Slam Champion
Andy Murray.
Fan
criticism came quickly especially comparing Kyrgios' career to Andy Murray's. For
example, one of the fans posted an image with both players head-to-head (Murray
leads 6-1), and wrote "clown like always.” Another fan said that “Murray
has more talent in his metal hip than you will ever have.”
There were
also fans who mock Kyrgios' results last year:
“You make
two quarterfinals in a year and you think you’re some Slam stalwart.”
“Says the
guy who beat Nakashima, Garin and w/o to reach Wimby final.”
“If you were
good in Slams as you are good in “blab la bla”, you would have won 20 Slams.”
