Tommy Paul is
having a great tournament so far. After
dumping out his compatriot Jenson Brooksby, he is in the fourth round of a
Grand Slam for the second time in his career, something he already achieved at
Wimbledon 2022, where he was defeated by the British Cameron Norrie. Now it is the case at the
Australian Open.
The 48th
ranked Jenson Brooksby had delivered one of the surprises of the Australian
Open by eliminating second seed Casper Ruud in 4 sets, but today he failed to
repeat his good level. Paul was excellent with his serve, and he didn’t concede
any service game. He also managed to break his opponent 5 times, and won in 3
sets by 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. In the second round, Paul had already shown that he was
a rival to watch out for, as he defeated 30th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
From the
beginning of the match, Brooksby was shown to be very inaccurate, committing
many unforced errors. From the start of the match, Brooksby proved to be very
inaccurate and made many unforced errors, and his opponent quickly took control
of the match. Tommy hit seven aces against two of Brooksby. The 25-year-old hit
64% of the first serve, winning 80% of them. On his opponent's side, he reached
67% first serves, but only winning 58% of them.
Tommy will face
the winner of the match between Roberto Bautista Agut and Andy Murray.
