It was an encouraging start for
Nick Kyrgios on Wednesday at the
Miami Open, as the Aussie overpowered
Adrian Mannarino to advance to the second round.
Kyrgios put on a serving masterpiece, firing 12 aces in the 7-6(3) 6-3 victory. The 26-year old won 80% of points behind his first serve, defeating the French veteran without facing a break point.
After both men refused to yield serve in the first set, it was Kyrgios' superior serving prowess that allowed him to establish a 5-2 lead in the tiebreak, before running away with the set.
As the second set progressed, the former World No.13 picked up where he left off as he dictated play using his serve and powerful groundstrokes. A single break was all that Kyrgios required, as he converted on his sole break point. The Australian then proceeded to serve out the match, sealing his victory with an ace.
Kyrgios will face fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the second round, with both men tied at 1-1 in career meetings.
