Nick Kyrgios was forced to withdraw from the
Australian Open due to an injury that has bothered him leading up to the event and it's left him devastated.
Kyrgios was excited about a chance to play in Melbourne once more but it wasn't meant to be. He missed most of the preseason due to the knee that was troubling him and he explained the devastation he feels about it:
"I'm devastated obviously, it's my home slam. Obviously, I'm just exhausted from everything. Pretty brutal... (this is) one of the most important tournaments of my career. It hasn't been easy at all."
His physio was also part of his press conference and he explained that the Djokovic match was a test to see how the knee handles it and it didn't go that well:
"We have made the sensible decision to withdraw him. At
this stage he wants to be mentally comfortable that he can go seven
matches and go the distance. Getting on the court simply wasn't enough
for him. The situation now we want to prevent him from having
further injury or making that injury worse. So now he'll go back to
Canberra at the end of the week."
Kyrgios also took to social media to show what was drained from his knee before the decision to withdraw.
