The North American hard court summer series kicks off soon after the Wimbledon Championships, with several WTA superstars flocking to Montreal for the Canadian Open. The popular event will see the return of hometown favorite and former champion Bianca Andreescu, who has been handed a wild card entry to the tournament.
A WTA 1000 event, the Canadian Open will run from July 27-August 7, 2025. One of the most prestigious events on the WTA tour, former champions include WTA legend Serena Williams, former World No.1 Simona Halep and two-time defending champion Jessica Pegula.

Andreescu to make return in front of home fans

The former World No.4 has a pleasant history with the Canadian Open, having won the title in 2019. Andreescu would subsequently win the US Open a few weeks later, establishing herself as one of the top WTA stars during that period.
However, the 25-year old has been dealing with injuries over the past year, which has seen her ranking take a significant hit. The three-time WTA singles titlist failed to qualify for the main draw of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, falling during the qualifiers at each Grand Slam event.
Nonetheless, Andreescu will skip the qualifying rounds for the Canadian Open as the Ontario native has been handed a wild card entry to the main draw by the tournament organizers. Andreescu's last appearance at the WTA 1000 event came during the 2024 edition, where she fell in the first round to Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko.
