Alexander Zverev was in superb form throughout the week as Germany sealed the 2024
United Cup with a deciding mixed doubles win over Poland led by Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz.
Zverev spent most of the last two days after the Australia tie which saw many missed match points cramped as he gave his all to bring victory to Germany and he did so with Angelique Kerber in particular singling him out for praise in the post final speech. But it was Swiatek that was the player who Zverev wanted to shine a light on and said having her is 'like a cheat code'.
Swiatek like a cheat code - Zverev
As well as sharing his delight of being in the same team as Kerber, Siegemund and Marterer in lifting the trophy in a week he described as 'so much fun' in a superb start to the season for the current World No.7.
"Itโs been absolutely amazing. Itโs been a pleasure and itโs been absolutely so much fun for everybody to be part of this team, especially for me," Zverev told his teammates during the trophy ceremony. "I really thank you guys for being part of this. I really couldnโt be happier be sharing this trophy with anybody than you guys."
"Congrats to Team Poland, amazing run. It was a matter of millimetres today for you guys to be the champions," Zverev continued. "I know it is upsetting, but you guys all have I think an amazing season ahead. Hubi and Iga, especially I think. Iga, congratulations on the MVP. I said it before in an interview, I think having you on a team is like having a cheat code on a video game, so itโs amazing what youโve been doing for the past few years and I think you have a big season ahead."
