Austria’s tennis star
Dominic Thiem has admitted that there
is a special connection between him and the city of Kitzbuhel.
The 29-year-old is playing the Austrian Open which is being
played in the city of Kitzbuhel where he has already cemented his place in the
semifinal of the competition after beating France’s Arthur Rinderknech in the
quarterfinal with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Talking after the match, Thiem was asked whether there is some
special connection between him and the city to which he responded by saying: “Definitely.
Everything’s coming together here. The incredible support of the home crowd is
something. It’s something I can rely on every single match”
The victory was a special one for the former world number three,
especially after he lost the first set against a tough opponent.
Not only that but the result will also give a lot of hope to
Thiem as he is looking to get back to the glory days after suffering with
multiple injuries in the recent past which kept him out of action for a long
time.
The Wiener Neustadt-born has an impressive record while
playing at the US Open where he won his first and till now only Grand Slam
title back in 2020 after defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the final of
the event with a score of 2–6, 4–6,
6–4, 6–3, 7–6.
