Maria Sakkari won her 2nd match in Berlin after another tricky battle against
Daria Saville 6-1 7-5 to move on to the quarterfinals.
The first set was not tricky at all for Sakkari who came out on fire against an opponent that seemed quite out of it. Saville had very little imagination as to how to attack Sakakri and the Greek player took advantage of it. Despite only hitting 44 % of her first serves Sakkari dominated play on her serve dropping only two points overall.
She did a lot of damage on Saville's 2nd as well and all of that combined was more than enough to secure the opening set 6-1. The 2nd set was much trickier for Sakkari and it gave fans what they hoped for when they showed up to watch the match. Sakkari got the break she needed for the 3-2 lead but gave it right back after some poor choices.
After that, Sakkari kept applying pressure with a fair amount of success but she was unable to find a breakthrough. Saville got herself to 5-5 saving five break points over the span of two service games. During all of that time, Ssakkari had no worries on her own serve as Savile barely won any points on it. Eventually, she finally got the break 6-5 finishing it off with 7-5.
