Carlos Alcaraz won in two sets against Daniil Medvedev to reach the final of the China Open 2024. Spectacular level of play that the Spaniard is showing so far in the beginning of his particular Asian tour that will take him to the Shanghai Masters 1000 next week. At the moment, he is already in the final of the Beijing Tournament, where he could face Jannik Sinner.
A beautiful start of the match between Carlitos and Daniil with an extraordinary first set that ended up taking the Spaniard to the limit. Three times he had to break the Russian's serve, who did not let the Spaniard leave the scoreboard at any time thanks to a couple of counterbreaks that kept the match open until five to five. In those moments, he brought out his best version, broke again and with his serve closed a beautiful set with spectacular shots from the back of the court and long exchanges of high level.
In the second set Medvedev began to have physical problems and had to be treated for a while when the Spaniard was 3-2 up and serving. After being treated, the Spaniard continued to impose his great game and put the 4-2 on the scoreboard. At that point of the match Daniil could not find a way to hurt his opponent.
The Russian, however, did not give up. He won his serve and tightened the score before being treated again by the ATP physios to try to solve his discomfort. Charlie, however, did not lower the level and went 5-3 up. He was left to win the match and he did not fail: 7-5 and 6-3 and Daniil went home. Fifth final of the year for Alcaraz. Alcaraz and Sinner, who have not faced each other since Roland Garros, could meet again.

Alcaraz d. Medvedev 7-5 6-3 Carlos knocks out last year’s finalist. Since losing to Daniil in the US Open SF last year, he’s won their last 4 meetings. ✅8th consecutive win ✅1st Beijing final ✅22nd career final Building momentum & looking unstoppable once again. 🇪🇸
