The first match of the second day of the
Laver Cup, which began with Team World beating Team Europe 2-1, pitted
Frances Tiafoe against
Daniil Medvedev.

In the first set, the score remained equal until 2-2. With Tiafoe on serve, Medvedev managed to get the first break of the match, and then confirm the break to take a 4-2 lead and put the first set on track.
After firmly holding his serve until 5-3, the Russian was 0-40 on the American's serve to have 3 break balls and set. Although the first two could not materialize them, in the third Medvedev closed the first set with a result of 6-3 in his favor, and with the advantage of starting serving in the second set.
In the second set, however, that advantage would quickly disappear. Tiafoe broke the Russian in the first game of the set, and then confirmed the break to go 0-2 to tie the match. At 2-3 and Tiafoe serving, Medvedev had a break point with which he could have tied the set, but the American managed to save the situation and continue with the advantage. In the end, Tiafoe sent the match to the super tie break after taking the set 4-6.
Super tie break
In super tie break, Medvedev took the first point with his serve. Tiafoe responded with his 2 points on serve. The first mini break was for the American, who was 2-3 and serving. The Russian was able to respond with another mini break to make it 3-4. However, after reaching 4-4, Tiafoe added another mini break to go ahead 4-5 and serving.
On this occasion, Frances Tiafoe managed to win his next two serves and get 4-7, close to victory. Medvedev cut it to 5-7, but would suffer another mini break that gave the American the opportunity to serve to win the match. Tiafoe was 5-9, with four match balls, and at the first time he closed the match in favor of Team World.
