Norway’s tennis star
Casper Ruud has praised his
Laver Cup
teammate Spain’s young sensation
Carlos Alcaraz. The two-team event has finally
started on Friday in Berlin, Germany where some of the top players in the world
are participating to showcase their talent and secure the ultimate prize.
Ruud is also taking part in the event where he is representing
Team Europe. One of his teammates is Alcaraz. The three-time Grand Slam winner
spoke to Spanish media outlet Puntodebreak where he praised the current world number
three.
Ruud was of the opinion that spending time with someone like
Alcaraz, who is already regarded as one of the best players in the world alongside
Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, is a ‘great’ opportunity for
him and also expressed optimism that the young Spaniard will go on to achieve
great things in the sprot because ‘incredible’ talent.
“I can't say anything but positive things about Carlos,” he
said. “Having the opportunity to spend time with him this week is great because
he's a fantastic guy. What he's doing is incredible, having a young man like
him is great news for tennis. He's capable of doing amazing things on the
court, he has a talent rarely seen in this sport and I have great admiration
for him because what he's doing has spectacular merit. I hope he can continue
to improve and be able to beat him in future battles, but I hope he continues
to have great success for many years to come.”
Ruud participated in the singles category contest on Friday
in the Laver Cup where he ended up on the losing side to Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo
in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. On the other hand, Alcaraz also
featured on the day but in the doubles category. He and his partner Germany’s Alexander
Zverev lost to the Team World’s pair of Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz in straight
sets with a score of 7-6, 6-4.
