Former player
Patrick McEnroe sees
Carlos Alcaraz as the favourite to win
Roland Garros over
Novak Djokovic and
Rafael Nadal due to their lack of form.
Rafael Nadal hasn't played in months so his lack of form is rather obvious and it's hard to imagine that he's going to come out swinging, despite his legendary record at the event. Djokovic's lack of form is less apparent but he too hasn't played that much on clay this year. Obviously, if he comes out strong at Rome people might rethink but for McEnroe, it's clear that Alcaraz is the main favourite for Roland Garros:
"Carlos Alcaraz wins it again (Madrid), defends his title. He didn’t even look like he was at his
absolute best in the final. So Alcaraz, you know someone asked me the other day, French starts right now, I mean, I have to put him as the favourite."
McEnroe added:
We all know if Rafa can somehow get there and get through a
few rounds and Novak… I guess we have to wait and see because Novak and
Rafa are out of form."
